Originally a quaint little grocery store when the area was known as Bethel Haven, it was owned by the very first Montgomery to inhabit New Helena. The Bunghole carries its name from a slang used during the years of Prohibition when citizens had to hide their illegal drinking habits. It was common to say, 'Meet me at the bunghole.' So will you?
