The Iron Gallery

The Iron Gallery is the host of all metal work, from iron welded sculptures to amour, the metal floors of the room and it's blank walls provide the stark atmosphere of contemporary iron movements.

Verity was in a strangely fantastic mood today, visions of sugarplums dancing in her head and whatnot. She loved Christmas, it was her favorite holiday, and winter was her favorite season! She loved doing wintry things like sledding and drinking hot cocoa and sitting by the fire, especially if she happened to be wrapped up in a blanket with a certain someone! They really looked the odd couple, him with his piercings and tattoos and dyed hair and her with her freshly blonded locks and innocent face. After all, in the winter most of her extensive tattoos stayed covered from the chilly air! Today was no exception, bundled up in boots, sweater, coat, and scarf before even thinking of stepping outside.

And yet here she was, definitely not at home as she contemplated picking up one of the spears lining the walls of the museum and twirling it around. She thought better of it. How mature of her! After all, she was in college now and trying to act her age. She'd even started speaking to her mother again after nearly three years of silence. Not often enough for the crazy overbearing woman to start controlling her life, and not about anything personal, but she was talking to her! That totally counted for something. But being mature was hard sometimes, especially when the insecurity monster reared its head and made her question her relationship with Brice. She loved him and they were happy, but she could never fully put that cheating fiasco out of her head, no matter how much she wanted to.

But now was not the time for such thoughts, especially when they could dampen her holiday spirit! So she whistled a happy tune which clashed sharply with the austere rows of armor on the museum walls. The spears were really sweet, though...

This year he was finally spending Christmas happy. He had never spent it alone with a girlfriend and to be completely honest, he wasn’t absolutely sure about what to do. He had never been the romantic kind of guy obviously, but he was honestly trying. He didn’t know if Verity thought he was trying, but he was! Trying not to let his eye wander, trying to be patient. Sure, they had gone pretty far as in feeling each other up pretty well but never went to that… full extent. He was getting so impatient, just wanting to be with her but knowing deep down he truly had to be patient. But now his attention was completely focused on Verity, their fingers locked together as they stepped into the shop, a coat and scarf hanging from his neck definitely didn’t match the baggy worn jeans or converse on his feet.

And they were the odd couple, everywhere they went people stared. He was so used to it by now, just walking in with Verity without giving those other people a chance. Why should he? They didn’t know him or her, so it really didn’t matter. He pulled her close as they wove their way to the iron gallery, looking at all the old armor and spears. They looked like they were telling a story and it made him smile a little. He had matured and was taking things more seriously. Like this relationship. He really needed to be more mature with that and not act like she would always be there. After last time, it was unpredictable as to what she would do. It made him a little wary, to say the least.

“What do you think of all this armor and stuff? I think it’s quite nice actually. Maybe someday I’ll dress up in one of those suits and run around-“ He grinned, kissing the top of her head and pulled her in close as they browsed the large gallery.

She knew he was trying, and she loved him for it. She understood it wasn't easy for him, that he didn't always know what to do, and it made her smile a little, seeing that Mr. Experience didn't know how to handle a real relationship. It wasn't like she did, either, but she was catching on! She liked being with him in the innocent sense of the word, but his impatience was obvious, to her and to anyone who was used to seeing them together. She knew that he had waited a long time, and it wasn't like he was pressuring her or anything, but it was just really difficult for her. She wanted her first time to be really special, and she was just so scared that afterwards it wouldn't be. Or he'd get tired of her and leave. But there was that fear now, too, knowing that every day she kept him waiting was more temptation. She wanted to, but she was so afraid. It was a mess, but she wanted them to work it out so desperately. After all, underneath the truckloads of baggage, she loved him.

Honestly, she sort of enjoyed the incredulous looks they got, and the fact that Brice never seemed to pay them any attention. She didn't much care whether the people thought he was too good for her or she was too good for him, in the end it all averaged out and they were perfect, both tremendously flawed and somehow still capable of feeling the way they did for each other. And she would never, ever start taking that for granted. If any good came out of the cheating, it was that. Neither of them ever stopped appreciating their relationship.

She grinned, wrapping an arm around him as they walked along. "If we were in a spear fight, would you let me win?" she asked in response to his comment about dressing up in the armor.

Oh, he was Mr. Experience with other things but not relationships. Sure, a few flings but she was his true real, first relationship. She had to expect him not to know how to deal with not having sex, not doing crazy things that he just wasn’t used to this lifestyle. It wasn’t how he lived when he had been a teenager and though he had adapted, he sometimes felt a longing for his old life in the back of his head. It was tempting, no responsibilities or worries but he had to grow up sometime and that sometime just so happened to be now. He had to do it for the both of them if he wanted this to work out. He knew that was the only way that this relationship would work, but she had to give a little too. The sexual tension, or just the tension they had in general sometimes made things hard to deal with and made him want to just hide like he had. Always hiding from the things he didn’t want and letting the other person deal with the heartbreak or whatever it happened to be.

And he had promised her it would be special! That it would be special if it was just the two of them together. That’s all they really needed, and he wanted it someplace warm. But that was it, all they needed were those things and it would be special. She had been holding out on him so long it was getting to be a bit much and he was truly frustrated with how often she got him worked up then said she couldn’t go all the way through and left him to deal with himself. That was never fun and was getting a little too predictable. He wasn’t sure just how much longer he would wait, or could wait for that matter. Each minute his impatient grew stronger and urge to be with her in an intimate setting like that grew just as strong. He wanted her to understand that them being together would only make him want her more. It would make them closer and let them see each other in a new light but he was starting to wonder if that would ever happen.

He pulled his thoughts from his head though as her voice broke into his mind, smiling down at her and gave her hip a squeeze. “Well, it depends on where you were aiming and how hard you were poking. I probably would though, just to be a good boyfriend.” He winked and smoothed a hand over her hair.

And she wanted to give a little, really! All she wanted in the world was to make him happy, but she couldn't ignore her own feelings, which had been so conflicted ever since the 'incident,' as she was referring to it in her mind. But how could she tell him that? It had been almost three years ago, and she kept telling him she was over it. How immature would she look now, bringing it up like an excuse? Of course, her current excuses weren't much better, insisting that she just wasn't ready when in reality, she had just about jumped on him that first time he'd said he loved her. At the risk of being horribly cliche, she'd always known he was it. Verity would follow Brice anywhere, and she was pretty positive he felt the same way about her.

After all, he had given up an entire way of life to be with her, no more sleeping around just because he was bored. With the exception of that one time, but still... He'd committed. Now why couldn't she? She didn't want to become just another one of those girls, the ones whose names he couldn't even remember. And while her logical side told her that this wouldn't be the case, that he cared about her way too much to just throw it all away like that, none of her fears about their relationship really made much sense. But she couldn't stop them from existing, ruining some of her happiest moments when they surfaced. For example, her happy smile of a moment ago had randomly slid off her face, replaced with an expression caught somewhere between thoughtful and upset. But as soon as she realized the smile was gone she replaced it with an even brighter one, overcompensating in a big way.

She giggled, burying her face in his chest for a moment before looking up at him again. "Babe, I would never endanger your man parts in the name of sport," she reassured him. "Maybe give you a couple bruises in other places, though..."

Sometimes he felt like he needed to give her a good shake, tell her that the ‘incident’ was well over, he had been drunk too! It wasn’t much of an excuse but in his mind it was, especially when she had been perfectly sober when she cheated on him for revenge. Yet here he was, by her side and clutching that very side to bring her tiny body closer to his. Though maybe if she told him her reasoning he would convince her just how much he loved her, that it had only happened once and it wouldn’t happen again. It was tiring, having to make sure she was happy and he was content even with the urges that came between them. Being closer to her like that was something he had wanted for so long and her holding out on him was making him more anxious to find someone who would equally be willing to give it to him. He loved her with all his heart, but he wasn’t sure just how much longer he would push. He was hoping by Christmas it would all be worked out, because of that dinner and flying back home to be with his mom and his new step-dad.

Yeah, he was taking that big step that she didn’t really know about yet. He hoped it would give them some alone time somehow, that they could just be together for a bit. He had truly wanted to spend Christmas alone with her and even though he had tried, his mom had called him yesterday and demanded he come home. He was maybe thinking of coming another time, like around his birthday, especially since he had wanted to spend the holiday with his girlfriend. He shouldn’t have to feel guilty about not spending it with his mom, right? He just wanted to be with her and only her. The way he was working now, spending so much time and doting all his love and devotion on her he was almost certain they would be together that way. And she certainly wouldn’t be one of those girls whose name he would forget. How could he forget a fiery young redhead who managed to flip him into a good boyfriend? Not many had made that feat and yet she had.

He just needed to somehow convince her it would make them stronger as a couple. It really would, he had convinced himself and thought of all the reasons why! He had plenty he could name right here, right now but he wouldn’t for the sake of possibly making her upset. The last thing he wanted to do was make her cry in public. Especially with the way she was curling into him now, her face buried against his chest had a smile playing on the corners of his mouth and a small chuckle coming from his throat. “And where would these so called ‘other places’ be? ‘Cause I have a few other places that I’d like to keep in perfect shape, like these-“ Bending down to brush his lips against her own quickly and gently squeezed her hip.

She knew that her judgment hadn't been clouded when she'd cheated, motivated entirely by revenge. Of course, the fact that he'd been drunk when the whole fiasco started didn't erase his guilt in her mind, merely gave him an excuse to make himself feel better. Or at least, that was her opinion of two and a half years ago at the time of the "incident." She was past it now, she kept insisting in her mind. She was being mature and every time they argued she would not bring it up because that would be old Verity coming out, and she was trying to stifle that bratty, obnoxious side of her as much as she could. It wasn't easy for her, either. But she was trying, just like he was. She didn't have to work at monogamy, but not acting like a five-year-old? Tougher.

But what wasn't tough was imagining them together on Christmas in every sense of the word, finally doing what they'd both wanted to for so long. She was excited about being alone with him for the holidays, really just wanting to be with him period. Brice was the most important part of her life and she couldn't stand the thought of being apart from him. As for spending Christmas with his family... It would be interesting. She couldn't really say she had an opinion one way or another in regards to his mother. She hadn't spent much time with her in the past, but she'd always been...polite. It was probably all she could say. The conversations they'd had previously had been far too awkward on which to base an opinion. How would she react to the charming blonde her son was so infatuated with?

She didn't want to think about the effects it would have on their relationship. She loved him, and she had to believe that it would be enough to change their relationship for the better rather than making it worse. She grinned up at him and as he kissed her, she was reassured. His lips felt familiar and sweet and she leaned into the contact, wanting to prolong it as long as possible. "Mmm, I don't think your lips are in any danger," she murmured, lips still only a fraction of an inch away from his own.

Ok, so true it really wasn’t a good excuse and he was still guilty. He should have never done it in the first place, sober or utterly drunk. Still, they had moved past it and he was trying to be the closest, best boyfriend he could possibly be. It may be hard for him to do, but he was desperately trying. Anything to prove to her that he was better, that he had changed as much as he could have within their time together. He was just trying but still learning with her. He had to learn and even now he found parts of him that felt like he would end up going back to the way he was. He felt like he would just become some asshole with nothing better to do than sleep around, drink and smoke. He loved her, he truly did but he knew they still had to work hard until he felt that old past self would disappear. He appreciated her trying too though, acting older and more mature, something they were both slowly becoming.

He couldn’t help those butterflies though, anytime someone said the word ‘Christmas’. He was actually spending Christmas with a long term girlfriend for the first time. It was stupid, saying ‘first time’ since he was nearly 20 but it was true. He had spent Christmas with other girls before but not a long term girlfriend. He had never had that nice little attachment and now that he had it, he wasn’t sure what to think. Would he have to dress up? Get her something overly expensive? Would they have to go out to an expensive restaurant? All these questions clogged his mind and he wasn’t sure exactly how to run with this. He feared that if he messed one thing up, she would end up leaving him and that would be the end of all his and her hard work.

And what if his family didn’t like her? Though that was still a decision in the process, he wasn’t 100% about her and him spending Christmas with his family. He wasn’t sure it was such a good idea so early after they were finally back on almost steady ground. They had both been recovering emotionally that he wasn’t exactly sure throwing her to his family would be the smartest idea. The last time she had spoken to any portion of his family had been after the incident and it had been rough, quiet and awkward then. He wasn’t sure doing this type of thing now would be a good idea.

But those thoughts were pushed away for now as he kept his mind on the present with Verity. He was going to get out of the family situation one way or another and that was that. He was going to be with just Verity and now that he had decided firmly upon that he could fully keep his attention on the lovely blonde next to him. He smiled as she pressed her lips against his, giving her one last little peck before they stopped in front of an old piece of armor. He stepped behind her, his arms around her waist while her back was pressed against his chest. He rested his chin on her head, kissing her temple gently. “What do you think of this piece?” It looked like it had been a noble man, muscular and the type that was like a Prince Charming. He wondered what she thought of it though, if their perspectives were anything alike or completely different.
